Rebecca Tinsley is a former BBC journalist who works in places where there has been genocide. Following a trip to Darfur at the height of the killing in 2004, she founded Waging Peace, which supports Sudanese dissidents. She also founded Network for Africa, a mental health charity helping people in post--conflict communities (Rwanda, Sierra Leone & Uganda). During the Bosnian war, she sent convoys of humanitarian aid to Bosnian Muslims refugees. She is also chair of the Free Yezidi Foundation.

Tinsley writes about genocide, Africa and development, and three of her novels have been commercially published in English (the novel about Sudan is available in Arabic). She also contributes papers to academic books on Africa.
