In Memoriam: Lisa Adeli

It is with great sadness that we share the loss of Lisa Adeli, our friend and colleague.

Lisa was among the first EIHR staff members, joining in 2014 to support research and networking in the Balkans and write grants for our work as a whole. Her expertise and professionalism were invaluable. Much beloved by staff and educators, Lisa's optimism shone a light on the darkness inherent in our work and bolstered her tenacity in the face of cancer.

She is deeply missed.

A memorial service in her honor has been organized by the University of Arizona. Please follow the link below for details and registration to attend:

Lisa’s Biographical Information:

Dr. Lisa Adeli is the Director of Educational Outreach at the University of Arizona Center for Middle Eastern Studies (CMES). Most of her job involves developing programs and curricular materials for K-12 teachers/community college educators. A long-time high school World History, English, and Middle East Studies teacher, Lisa became a Museum Teacher Fellow with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2000 and wrote her doctoral dissertation (briefly published as a book) on the reaction against genocide in Bosnia and Croatia during World War II. By educational background, she is a Balkan historian.

As part of her work with CMES, she has received nine large national-level grants: eight Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad curriculum development program grants and one National Endowment for the Humanities summer institute grant. She has implemented seven of them; two are currently in progress. Lisa volunteers in her work with EIHR.
